What is the difference between a response and compiled lists?
Marketing Lists are often described as response and compiled lists. The difference is crucial for your list decisions.
Response Lists
Response-generated lists are lists of individuals who have responded to some direct marketing offer. Examples of response lists would be magazine subscribers, catalogue buyers, product and shopper incentive offers, and even free information requesters, which are all response-generated. Essentially, names on a response list are really another direct marketer’s customer name. They are renting their customer response list to you. Every name has shown to be responsive in some way.
Compiled Lists
In contrast, compiled lists are names and addresses compiled (‘compiled’ or put together) by a list company from phone books, public records, directories, census and other information sources. Compiled lists usually allow amazing customization due to the large number of demographic selects (job title, company size, telephone numbers, etc.) available.
